"Deep within every woman is the ability to birth. When she has confidence in her own abilities, the encouragement and freedom to tap into her innate wisdom, and has the loving support of family, friends and professionals who believe this too, she will truly have a satisfying birth experience."
~ Gary Ryan

Your Body, Your Birth, Your Way...

I'm a mother of three boys with over thirty years of mothering experience, a senior birth Doula, HypnoBirthing practitioner, certified Dancing For Birth Instructor and co-founder of the Madison Doula Collective. I enjoy offering caring childbirth preparation and intuitive labor and birth support for families with various needs in Madison, WI and outlying areas.

When I step into a birth, I bring not only my heart, hands, and training, I also bring 12 years of experience, continuing education and training on subjects relating to birth. I became a Doula after having three very different birth experiences. My first was a footling breach that was delivered by emergency cesarean section. My second was a powerful birth using self-hypnosis and the caring support of three women who empowered me to attain my goal of a natural birth. My last birth was an induction at forty-two and a half weeks.

I learned many things from each experience. I not only achieved two VBAC births, but also had a natural birth. I learned that some things are out of our control, but that there are other things that we can and want to control. I realized that caring support is important and can change the way you feel about your birth. These experiences are what brought me to the path of being a Doula.

About Me

Through my training with Marie Mongan, author and founder of HypnoBirthing® The Mongan Method, I gained a clear understanding of how fear can negatively impact the birthing process. Because of this, I provide tools, information, and support to reduce anxiety/fear and increase confidence in your body and your ability to give birth. These tools will not only help you to look forward to the day you give birth and let go of fear, they will serve you for a lifetime.

My Mission
My mission is to provide factual information that will help mothers and families select a birth style that is right for them. As a Doula, I'm committed to helping mothers own and feel empowered by the birth of their child. I trust that a woman's body knows how to give birth. I enjoy helping each mama learn to listen to her body prior to birth to help build confidence in her ability to do this during labor.

My Belief
I believe the miracle of birth to be a normal process that unfolds best when left undisturbed within a calm, peaceful, and safe environment. Because of this belief I've made it part of my practice to help create this feel in every birth space I enter. I do this through my constant support, the use of aromatherapy, encouraging and supporting the connection between the laboring mama, and her partner  along with other special touches from my birth bag. I work together with each couple to create a nurturing environment for the entire family. Nurses, midwives and doctors love the feel and smell of my rooms!

Through the past 12 years, I've been blessed to attend over 275 births. I'm continually humbled to receive referrals from doctors, nurses, midwives, prior clients, and friends, I consider this to be the highest compliment I could ever receive.
